The new classrooms at Weralugahamula School are nearly ready, with a handover ceremony scheduled for June 6. This milestone comes thanks to volunteers from IFS, Platned, HOIST, and IGT1 Lanka, who joined forces on-site to add those final finishing touches.
The team’s efforts included painting fresh coats of white on interior walls – a collaborative action led by Platned’s own Deshani Kathriarachchi and Yehani Wijesuriya alongside their peers. Over on LinkedIn, IFS Foundation chair Stephen Keys shared that the construction was nearly complete: “Ground floor – 92 % complete. Roof work – 95 % complete … hoping to complete these elements within the next week”.
Platned proudly supports this IFS Foundation initiative, which seeks to enhance access to quality education and leave a lasting impact for students and teachers alike.

What this means
- More classroom capacity: the new space more than doubles the primary school’s size, ensuring every grade has its own dedicated classroom.
- Community collaboration: this is a joint effort – not only from IFS and Platned, but also from other partners like HOIST and IGT1 Lanka – all contributing their time and skills.
- Sustainable impact: the project is part of a wider IFS Foundation mission to uplift rural communities through education and infrastructure.
A cause to celebrate
Leading up to the official handover on June 6, volunteers will apply the final coats of paint both inside and out ahead of contractors completing landscaping and other details.
This is more than just bricks and paint – it’s hope. New classrooms mean children in Weralugahamula can learn safely and thrive in modern, bright environments. Platned and its partners are laying the groundwork for future success – one classroom at a time.
